By the way, I know many fans read comics/other reading materials on the mobile, mostly due to quick access/absence of the pc etc, but if you have pc/tab, then I will suggest you to read the complete story on those devices than on mobile - mostly because the source-material(scan) quality was not great(I have used an old scanned version available on net) AND while reading on mobile, that is little more evident but same strips look fine on the pc etc. Just a suggestion.

Comic #123 : Modesty Blaise in BENGALI - "সঙ্ঘ"(La Machine) - ১ম পর্ব (Part-1)

 This is an attempt to translate Modesty Blaise daily strips in Bengali (details already given in this fb group post) and it's always best to start from the origin story - titled "La Machine".

 There are some famous series where basic setting & explanation of the origin etc were given in the subsequent stories, primarily because creators couldn't fully envisioned the basic set-up when they were scripting the first story.
 And then, there are some series where almost every major aspects were explained in the very first story, and then maintained throughout the series with some secondary changes/introductions. Modesty Blaise falls in the second category, and hence reading this origin story is very important to understand the basic theme and mood of the series. Once you have done with this story, it won't matter whether you are going to read the very next story or the 20th story, or even some from the later run!

I will post the whole story in a few parts.

I love Modesty & Willie's adventures, how J.Holdaway portrayed them and how Mr. Donnell scripted the stories. And every time I read them, I wished these strips were available in Bengali. 

I do hope you will like this version.

The Garden of the Inca was originally published in the early '70s newspapers,when Indrajal Comics was very much in the business. But for some unknown reason,Times of India skipped this in their comic-magazine and hence it was missed by all Indian fans incld. the Bengali readers...

 So here it is in Bengali,translated from the original English version(colored strips are courtesy of Magnus).

 This time I have tried bit different thing with the fonts.Actually, have used my own hand-written fonts for this entire comic-strip,much like what we have seen in the old comic-books.This was probably not done before in the blogs, so I thought this would be better.
 Personally,I can take both as was introduced/grew-up with both types almost parallelly,but the vintage hand-written one has some different charm,the reason why I did this...!(I have experimented with different inks for the lettering but as it turned out finally that only black and blue inks are most suitable after the scanning,so I have used only these two inks in the whole run.)

Post Script :

 @All visitors and fellow blogger friends :  After almost 8 years been in the blogging,I have finally decided to call it a day! That is,this post is going to be my last post as a blogger and that incld. my other two blogs aswell(the comic-cum-literature blog exclusively in Bengali : Bengali Treasure-Trove(BTT) and the social-blog where I have been quite irregular anyway : fly by.. ).

 While there will be no new posts in these blogs,I will keep them open so visitors,specially the newer ones, can access the long archives..
 Overall it was an eventful journey in these 95 months with 202 posts(at this blog) and 255 posts(in total,incld. some mirrors) which I have enjoyed quite a bit,and that was due to some quality visitors and bloggers with whom over the years I have shared quite friendly relation at blogs/mail/chat/fb and with some, personally as well! (While there will be no new post @blogs,I will active in FB,specially at this group : Indrajal Collectors' Club(ICC) and will post time to time!)

 Once again,many THANKS for your regular visits and the in-depth comments that motivated me to continue blogging this far amidst all the problems...

The Devil's Island'(aka 'শয়তানের দ্বীপ') by Mayukh Chowdhury in PORTUGUESE(পর্তুগীজ)

UPDATE (31/8/2014) : Now in SPANISH!! After English and Portuguese, 'Saytaner Dweep' - the original Bengali creation by Mayukh Chawdhury, now has been translated in 3 languages - ALL on 2014(and the original story was created on 1965). 
The Spanish title is "La Isla Del Diablo" and JABATO did the job!!

    You might have remember that few months back I have translated a Mayukh Chowdhury comics based at a Californian coast - শয়তানের দ্বীপ(Saytaner Dweep) - in English,titled : The Devil's Island.
The purpose was to spread this legendary artist-cum-storytellers' creation among the millions of English speaking readers as all original MC works are in Bengali only and none of those was ever translated before in English, making MC works restricted within the Bengali readers only!

But no more!

Our one of the Brazilian bloggers Celso Nunes(aka KALL) read that MC story in English and he liked it and felt it should be spread among his native fans i.e. Portuguese readers.

So here is his own translated version of "শয়তানের দ্বীপ" in Portuguese, from the English version itself(and his photoshop work made that story even more stuning!).

The title is "A Ilha do Diabo"...

Comic #113 : First Indrajal Comics(The Phantom's Belt) in BENGALI : বেতালের বেল্ট[Translated]

 UPDATE(19/7/2014) :  A very fine article was published at today's edition of a Bengali newspaper  "EI SOMOY" on Indrajal Comics,the 50 years of this series,and I was mentioned there as a fan and avid collector of this series... :)  
[The number of Indrajal I have in my collection mentioned there is total i.e. incld. all versions and spares. I have 745 specific issues(out of 803).. ]

Few months back,I have translated a Mayukh Chawdhury comics -শয়তানের দ্বীপ - in English(The Devil's Island). The purpose was to introduce this famous Bengali artist-cum-storyteller's work with all non-Bengali Indian fans and fans around the globe(like Celso from Brazil)..

 This time,I did just opposite..
 That is,I have translated a famous and already read-by-millions English Phantom tale in Bengali,which was eventually picked as the cover-story of the introductory issue of Indrajal Comics  - The Phantom's Belt - published on March 1964! That time Indrajal had no Bengali version nor this story was ever reprinted,hence this fantastic adventure was never published in Bengali till date...

 So here it is for all of you,the Bengali Indrajal & Phantom(aka Betal aka Aranyadev) fans,the very first Indrajal Comics(The Phantom's Belt) in Bengali - বেতালের বেল্ট - after 50 years of the original publication!
  As you know Indrajal Comics completed it's 50 years of existence on the last March,so you can consider this post as an extended part of that celebration of this unforgettable series....something that will remain attached with me till my last days..!!

 And it was a fitting tale of avenge created by Falk and illustrated by McCoy on 1954.

 According to me,the best part of the story was that double rain-bow aspect...most unique....And unlike the many other 'superstitious/supernatural facts' associated with the Ghost Who Walks,this was never repeated in any of the later adventures of him...

FEW TRIVIA : 

[i] In the Indrajal version,Singh pirate was called 'Singha' and 'Bengali Explorer Club' was renamed 'Rankali Explorer Club'. Times of India(ToI) was obviously puzzled with these words,specially with name of that African country,and the first they renamed that by Rankali and later settled with Denkali! (I have used Denkali for readers' ease...as we are most familiar with this!)
Both changes were obviously required and that 'Bengali' one was of course a mistake by Falk as he tried to  'naming' a fictitious country using a real 'dialect'(Bengali)..

[ii] One person called Ramsay was renamed Ramlu BUT strangely name of that killer - Rama - was retained!!

[iii] The scans of the English issue(that I have used) was quite ordinary,pages weren't properly aligned, plus,it was done from a book in very tattered condition. So I had to edit and clean some parts as you can check here...I don't know PS and hence the cleaning was quite tiring and time-consuming,but the end result was satisfactory!

[iv] The numbering in Bengali I choose is খন্ড ১ সংখ্যা ১..as this would be(for all versions) if  ToI picked the Vol.No. pattern from the very first year instead of the 20th! Thought it's better than using "-২২" ...what you guys think?? :-)

[v] I have translated the Phantom story only and skipped those other GK type pages & cartoons...

Comic #112 - The Devil's Island by Mayukh Chowdhury[Translated]

                                            বঙ্গদেশে জন্মে তুমি দেখিয়েছ যে রঙ্গ,
                                          প্রাচ্য থেকে প্রাশ্চাত্য পেয়েছে সমান সঙ্গ।
                                              তোঁমার রচনায় তাই দেখি তাই 
                                               জাতি-দেশ ভুলে এসেছে সবাই,
                                                  দেয়নি কেউ রণে-ভঙ্গ !

During a  recent discussion on a topic on Mayukh Chowdhury - the renowned Bengali artist and story-teller - at Facebook, a fan commented what would happened if MC was born outside of Bengal/India where his work would had been not restricted in the regional language(i.e. Bengali) but in English and would been read by millions!! And that's so true because his works were mostly free of the regional/national boundary, be it wild-life based comics,or Robinhood comics or those alien tales - all these stories deserve a much wider range of readers because of the contents!
 But what a pity that,even after 52 years of his first published work and 18 years after his demise, there is no single translated job done on his work,at least I never seen/heard about any!!(While Narayan Debnath and Satyajit Ray's some works have been already translated,it's baffling why MC was omitted till date!)

 That particular discussion promoted me to do the job. And so as a very small tribute to this legendary artist, I have translated one of the Mayukh's earlier work - a fascinating thriller based on the Californian coast - ''শয়তানের দ্বীপ(Saytaner Dweep)" i.e. The Devil's Island!

 I have tried every possible way to retain the original feel,starting from the way MC narrated the dramatic events happened there to the font/text color and font size! Hopefully it will show to many,specially those who can't read Bengali,that what a great artist-come-narrator he was!
 And then, this is a just very small piece of his numerous work!

Comic #108 - A Post-Indrajal Phantom Sunday(Capt. Amazon - Pirate Queen; 1989)

                                        HAPPY VIJAYADASHAMI TO ALL
 Enjoy a old Phantom strip(S134) in color and in Bengali. In this tale of 5th Phantom(aka Aranyadev), it has been shown how a gentle,beautiful lady transformed in a dreaded pirate queen - Captain Amazon! Later she became the wife of 5th Phantom!
 The most famous quote(of Juliet) probably was "Call us pirates! Then we'll be Pirates"!!

Between,the colored pages are from famous magazine Desh. This strip ran for 24 weeks but I have only 18 sundays till now,missing remaining 6..
 So I did two things,firstly used English b/w strips to fill the gap and then translated those in Bengali. Hopefully you will like the effort!(I have tried to bring the feel of Desh in those pages albeit the colors! as unfortunately I have the b/w English version only.)

 And for the Indrajal addicts, this is a special strip as with this one,the Post-Indrajal era was started off (the last sunday appeared in Indrajal was S133 "Death from the Sky"  in Vol.26 No.41). Had Indrajal survived for another extra month,we might had this very nice story in the pages of one of the most famous comic-magazines! 

 There were 45 Phantom sundailies(by Falk) from the Post-Ijc era but only very few were worth reading....this one was among those very few!
